Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) is a premier cancer treatment, research, and education institution in India. It is an autonomous institution under the administrative control of the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India.
Established on February 28, 1941, by the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, TMC was initially commissioned to advance learning and research in cancer treatment. The institution has since expanded significantly and now operates multiple centers across India.
TMC comprises several hospitals and research centers, including Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) in Kharghar, and multiple nodal centers across the country. These facilities collectively register about 120,000 new cancer patients annually2.
TMC is a hub for impactful clinical and public health research, contributing significantly to cancer care practices both in India and globally. The center also emphasises training human resources to ensure the delivery of quality cancer care at scale2.
The current Director of TMC is Dr. Sudeep Gupta, who continues to drive the institution’s vision of being a leader in cancer care and research.
